Bridgestone Steps Up Global Commitment to Social Responsibility

Bridgestone Corp. launched a fresh global initiative to advance and refine its commitment corporate social responsibility. Entitled "Our Way to Serve," the company says the initiative reflects the company's longstanding philosophy that the best companies not only perform for their stakeholders, but they also contribute to a better world.

Our Way to ServeThis week Bridgestone Corp. launched a fresh global initiative to advance and refine its commitment corporate social responsibility (CSR). Entitled “Our Way to Serve,” the company says the initiative reflects the company’s longstanding philosophy that the best companies not only perform for their stakeholders, but they also contribute to a better world. The new commitment builds upon 10 years of Bridgestone’s original CSR program.

Bridgestone’s “Our Way to Serve” centers around three priorities:
1) Mobility – “Through innovative technology, Bridgestone is committed to providing easier, safer, smoother and more seamless mobility for its customers.”
2) People – “Building on the enthusiasm of its employees to connect with people worldwide, the company is also focused on building safer and healthier communities, and improving access to education.”
3) Environment – “With regard to the environment, Bridgestone continues to work toward a sustainable society by operating in harmony with nature, valuing natural resources and reducing carbon dioxide emissions.”

During 2017, Bridgestone employees will be working diligently to refine Environment targets and establish measurable Key Performance Indicators for the Mobility and People Priority Areas based on best practices and key stakeholder engagements. The company does business in more than 150 countries and says it believes in building relationships and contributing to the local communities where it operates.

“We live in a time of unprecedented global change,” said Masaaki Tsuya, global CEO and representative executive officer of Bridgestone Corp. “Whether growing social inequalities, the myriad impacts of globalization, or the effects of climate change – the world is faced with many great challenges. Our team has always embraced its responsibility to help advance sustainable development and solve world problems, but is now focusing on priority areas that can best be impacted by Bridgestone’s leading scale and unique knowledge.”

Along with the new three priority areas, Bridgestone is strengthening additional areas of social responsibility, referred to as “Management Fundamentals at Bridgestone.” These cover compliance and fair competition; human rights and labor practices; procurement; business continuity and risk management; safety and industrial hygiene, and quality and customer value.
