The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plans to hire 87 new workers as part of the company’s 7,500-square-foot expansion of its Gadsden, Ala., tire plant, according to reports.
The expansion began in September after the Gadsden City Council approved a $30 million tax abatement that Goodyear will invest in the project, according to AL.com. The company plans to invest more than $27 million in new machines and $2 million in the facility.
With the expansion, Goodyear will be able to produce more “high complexity manufactured consumer tires” and rubber products for the company’s commercial products division, according to the Gadsden-Etowah County Industrial Development Authority.
The Gadsden-Etowah County Industrial Development Authority also said many of the jobs will require skill and training and they are looking at an average salary of $60,000.
The plant has been operating for more than 86 years and currently employs 1,400 people. Goodyear expects the project to be completed in fall 2016.
