Jay Carroll, 73, of Canyon Lake passed away on Sept. 24.
Carroll, born in Hazard, Ky., moved to Ohio at an early age, where he attended West Carrollton schools from first through twelfth grade, graduating in 1959. Carroll married Nancy in 1961, the same year he began attending Akron University. At the age of 26, Carroll took a position with Firestone Tire Co. in Dayton, Ohio.
Carroll advanced to a top management position at Firestone, moving up in the company until he earned an executive position at the company’s headquarters in Akron, Ohio. Carroll retired from Firestone at the age of 48.
Carroll came out of retirement shortly after moving to Apple Valley, Ohio, and took a position with Winco Windows. From there, he moved to Southern California to manage a factory and warehouse for the company.
After six years, Carroll returned to Firestone and while there, was tapped by Toyo Tires for the position of vice-president of logistics. At Toyo, he supervised the building of a warehouse in Ontario, Calif., and a factory and warehouse in the Atlanta area. Carroll was also named International Employee of the Year by Toyo International before he retired in 2007.
Carroll is survived by his wife of 53 years, his three children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held at Canyon Lake Community Church on Oct. 6.
