New Tires, MEMS Upgrade Top Michelin MINExpo Effort

Michelin North America unveiled three new OTR tires and an upgrade to its Michelin Earthmover Management System (MEMS) at this week’s MINExpo in Las Vegas.

The new tires include:

  • Michelin XMine D2, a multi-purpose underground mining radial, with a two-star load capacity rating, available in sizes 26.5R25, 29.5R25, 29.5R29 and 35/65R33.
  • Michelin XTXL, an underground mining radial designed to deliver long service life and handle 60-ton capacity, available in size 35/65R33.
  • Michelin XDR2 for rigid dump trucks, designed for long service life, durability and cut/scrape resistance, available in sizes 27.00R49, 33.00R51, 37.00R57, 40.00R57, 53/80R63, 56/80R63 and 59/80R63.

The Michelin Earthmover Management System provides mine operators with data about tire usage, temperatures and inflation pressures. The upgrade, MNA said, is called MEMS Evolution 2, and uses the latest-generation TPMS sensor and system software.

The upgrade, said MNA, gives operators “direct access to data regardless of where the vehicle is located in the mine; user-friendly interface for operators and data analysts; greater flexibility for the operator’s information service; and a wireless, more powerful software and communication system.”
