The Yokohama Rubber Co. and its overseas group of companies donated 13.1 million yen to the Red Cross to support the organization’s efforts to aid Philippines typhoon victims.
YRC donated roughly 5 million yen to the Red Cross in Japan, while eight group subsidiaries including that in the U.S. donated 3.6 million yen. Additionally three subsidiaries in the Philippines and elsewhere contributed 4.5 million yen, the company said.
Typhoon Haiyan, which struck the Philippines in November, was the year’s strongest typhoon. More than 27,000 people were injured, and some 3.9 million were forced to evacuate their homes. The typhoon’s death toll currently stands at more than 6,000 people, with nearly 1,800 still missing.
