The management had originally said it would cut 320 positions, 10% of the Stoecken plant’s workforce, and halt passenger car tyre production by the end of 2006. Now the company reports that it will cut jobs between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2007.
Head of personnel Thomas Sattelberger said the company hopes to finalise the agreement by mid-February. At least part of the workforce reduction will be implemented through partial retirement and staff relocation.
In addition, Continental says it will establish a worker re-education programme and will strengthen the plant’s research and development unit.
