Industry’s Arch Nemesis Stepping Down

Joan Claybrook, who over her long career has often been a thorn in the side of the tire industry, is stepping down as head of consumer watchdog Public Citizen.

No replacement has been chosen, and Claybrook will remain on the group’s board.

“As the winds of change sweep the nation and Washington, D.C., with promises for new policies to help the public, it is a good time for me to move on to other adventures,” said Claybrook, who was president of Public Citizen for the past 27 years after serving as NHTSA administrator during the Carter Administration.

In addition to fighting the auto and trucking industries on safety issues, Claybrook has been involved in numerous tire issues, from the Firestone 500 recall of the early 1970s to the Ford-Firestone tire issues in 2000, and was involved in the development of TREAD Act regulations. Goodyear names new Americas unit president

Ryan Waldron joined Goodyear in 2003, serving in leadership roles in finance and supply chain for multiple North America business areas.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has named Ryan Waldron as president of the company's Americas business unit, reporting to Chief Executive Officer and President Mark Stewart. He succeeds Steven R. McClellan, who retired on April 1.

"I am thrilled to announce him as president of Goodyear's Americas business and have enormous confidence that under his leadership, both the company and our customers will reach even greater levels of success."
