NRS Discusses Service Changes Demanded by Electric Vehicles

EV service process are poised to change, but quality brake pad needs remain

NRS Brakes, manufacturer of NRS Galvanized Brake Pads, recently discussed the ways that increased EV usage could impact the vehicle service process. Most notably, technician training and proper equipment were two of the biggest considerations. But the more things change, the more some service aspects remain the same–high-quality brake pad replacement demands will continue to persist in the EV era.

“Technicians will need training on the proper methods for disconnecting and working around high-voltage systems, in addition to the use of proper personal protection equipment [PPE],” said an NRS spokesperson. “Additionally, shop owners will need to make investments in the proper tools and equipment–both PPE and for vehicles. They may also need to decide if they will invest in charging infrastructure at their location.”

Replacement brake pad selection remains a constant regardless of the powertrain.

“EV owners, shop owners and technicians should not assume that regenerative braking means reduced brake pad service. The same corrosion issues that cause some brake pads to deteriorate will continue to be a challenge EVs face,” NRS stated.

NRS Galvanized Brake Pads prevent corrosion using zinc-plating technology, compared to many traditional brake pads that utilize painted parts. Furthermore, NRS-patented mechanical brake pad attachment ensures that the engineered layers of the brake pad do not separate over time. Unlike many other brake pads that use a simple adhesive, the innovative NRS-patented mechanical brake pad attachment ensures that the engineered layers of the brake pad do not separate over time or crumble from corrosion.
