Giti Tire Math and Science Award Program to Honor Students

Giti recently announced the winners for the company's Math and Science Award Program.

Giti Tire USA Ltd. has announced winners for the company’s Math and Science Award Program during an April 12 award ceremony held at the Gateway Center in Richburg, South Carolina.

The contest topics were:

  • Elementary school team – Eclipse Emulator, a look at the stars and solar system to support earth science, as well as general scientific and engineering practices.
  • Middle school team – Micro-Drone Lift, tied with the forces and motion curriculum and supporting physical science and engineering.
  • High school team – Wind Power, supporting the interactions and energy curriculum and using physics, general science and engineering principles.

“The program’s mission is to create interest, excitement and encourage the development and use of scientific discipline to help prepare children for jobs in our ever-increasing technological society,” said Hank Eisenga, vice president of manufacturing for Giti Tire Manufacturing (USA) Ltd. “We were thrilled by the student’s participation in this year’s contest and very impressed by the quality of all the entries.”

 

The competing schools were the following

Elementary schools:

  • Lewis Elementary
  • Great Falls Elementary
  • Chester Park School of Arts
  • Chester Park COLT
  • Chester Park School of Inquiry

Middle schools:

  • Lewisville Middle
  • Chester Middle
  • Great Falls Middle

High schools:

  • Lewisville High
  • Chester High
  • Great Falls High

The entries were judged on design, written report, collaboration and presentation.

The first step to participate in the contest is for students to apply and become a member of the Giti Math and Science club. The club meets at least 12 times between September and April.
