Six Tire Manufacturers Receive RMA SHIP Awards

The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) recognized six tire manufacturers with Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP) awards for their excellence and improvements in worker health and safety.

“Safety is RMA members’ top priority for their products and their workplaces,” said Anne Forristall Luke, RMA president and CEO. “We are proud to recognize this commitment to safety.”

The SHIP awards were created in 1981 and are divided into two categories – “Excellence” and “Improvement” – which are measured by the incidence rate for lost workday cases. To be selected for an Excellence Award, facilities must achieve a Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate that is 75% better than the average data plants provide to RMA. To be selected for an Improvement Award, facilities must achieve a DART rate that is both 10% better than its rate in the previous year and the same or better than the RMA average incidence rate.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has named Ryan Waldron as president of the company's Americas business unit, reporting to Chief Executive Officer and President Mark Stewart. He succeeds Steven R. McClellan, who retired on April 1.
