Kenda Rubber Industrial Co. Ltd. plans to build a second Southeast Asia plant with the construction of a $160 million passenger and light truck tire plant in Dong Nai Province of Vietnam.
The tiremaker plans to start construction on the more than 120-acre site during the first quarter of 2016 and begin tire production by the fourth quarter of 2017.
Kenda said it plans to initially hire 600 employees and increase employment to 1,500.
The new plant would be Kenda’s seventh plant. The tiremaker is also building a truck tire plant in China and plans to double consumer tire capacity to 10,000 tires a day at its Yun-Lin, Taiwan, headquarters by the end of 2016.
