Roughly 425 pounds of cocaine – valued at more than $8 million – were found hidden in a shipment of tires from South America at the Los Angeles and Long Beach port complex, according to a report in the L.A. Times.
The haul was discovered last Saturday as officers used “non-intrusive” technology similar to X-rays and gamma-ray imaging to inspect the shipping containers onboard the boat, the report stated. After spotting an anomaly, the officers opened one container to find three large bundles containing 170 brick-sized packages of cocaine.
