Cooper Rolls Out New SUV/CUV Tire

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. has launched a new premium SUV/CUV tire – the Cooper Discoverer SRX. The tire is designed to provide dependable all-season highway traction, superior handling, and a quiet, comfortable ride, the tiremaker said.

Among the Discoverer SRX’s features is Cooper’s wear square. First introduced in its CS5 touring tire, the wear square allows drivers to quickly assess the approximate tread remaining on the tire, Cooper said. The square is has six points of reference around the inside and outside of the tire and can also signal uneven tire wear and possible wheel alignment issues, the tiremaker noted.

The SRX tire uses a new silica tread compound that provides road-gripping performance and reduced rolling resistance. The tread compound paired with Cooper’s Stabiledge technology and 3D sipes helps to deliver more road surface grip for increased traction in wet weather conditions and light snow, Cooper said.

Currently the Discoverer SRX is available in six sizes and an additional 30 sizes will be available in early 2015. The tire features a 65,000 mile treadwear warranty and is backed by a 45-day road test guarantee.

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has named Ryan Waldron as president of the company's Americas business unit, reporting to Chief Executive Officer and President Mark Stewart. He succeeds Steven R. McClellan, who retired on April 1.
