Commercial Vehicle Registrations Up 12.4%

With rises in the number of registrations of buses, coaches and cars in September, the commercial vehicle sector continued the good news, with total CV registrations performing strongly in the month, up 12.4% to 49,197 units. This means the overall commercial vehicle market is up 8.1% for the year-to-date, at 239,356 units.

In September, vans rose 10.3% with 43,066 new 63-plate registrations and rose 9.6% over the year so far with 205,004 registrations.

Truck demand grew 29.7% in the month with 6,131 registrations; year-to-date recovery is on course, now stable, down just 0.1% on 2012 at 34,352 units.

“Commercial vehicle registrations rose 12.4% in September, with greater confidence and impending Euro 6 legislation producing a strong recovery in truck volumes,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive.

“Encouragingly, van registration levels have stabilized, up around 10% in the month and year-to-date, after a variable year that reacted to model changes and changeable market conditions. Year-to-date truck demand is back to 2012 levels after a slow start to the year and we expect the last quarter to be very strong for the sector.” (Tyres & Accessories)
