Entitled the Northern Ireland Tyre Safety Association (NITSA) the group will be formally created at a special open meeting to be held next month in Templepatrick where proposals a for a tyre safety week will be discussed.
The group, which will be entirely independent of the NTDA, will include representatives of tyre manufacturers and suppliers in the province, including non-NTDA member retailers who, in the group’s opinion, provide a professional tyre service to motorists. The region’s road safety organisations Police and government officials will also be invited to the inaugural meeting.
“A dedicated organisation to promote tyre safety is needed in Northern Ireland, and my main aim is to include any company or organisation that feels it has a contribution to make. In the past, the tyre safety weeks have been very successful and one of our main aims will be to work closely with the P.S.N.I and D.O.E to recreate that success,” commented Nutt.
Newly elected NTDA Northern Ireland chairman Norman Kerr of Kerr’s Tyre, Antrim commented: “The NTDA fully supports Roy’s ideas, and we agreed at our recent meeting that NITSA should be totally independent of the NTDA, and, whilst all members of the NTDA will give support, it is extremely important that all organisations and tyre retailers are encouraged to support the proposals.”
