The Henry County (Ga.) grand jury is hearing evidence in the case of a truck driver accused of stealing a load of Pirelli tires from a McDonough, Ga., logistics company.
The 48-year-old suspect from Lithonia, Ga., was charged by police with two counts of felony theft following an undercover investigation into the theft of 966 BMW tires, worth about $387,000, that were reported stolen from Kuehne and Nagel in November 2012. The previously convicted felon also was charged with stealing the trailer that held the tires.
According to local news reports, “A witness on Nov. 9 saw a suspicious vehicle, later identified as a white Freightliner owned by the suspect, pulling an unlit, unmarked trailer from Kuehne and Nagel’s lot on Interstate Drive, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Anita Ivy said in Henry County Magistrate Court.”
A police investigation tracked the tires to a Lithonia business, where police seized 127 of the allegedly stolen tires. The business owner reportedly gave police the name of the alleged thief and another man, who asked him to store the tires.
