Workshop in Portugal Highlights Performance of Retreads

Over two dozen truck tire retailers from Portugal participated in the workshop about quality retreading, held in Alcobaça and organized by Fedima Tyres with the support of Marangoni Retreading Systems.

In October, 25 truck tire retailers from Portugal participated in the workshop about quality retreading, held in Alcobaça and organized by Fedima Tyres with the support of Marangoni Retreading Systems.

Ringtread Blackline, the ultra-performance range of Marangoni’s tread rings, was featured during the event, which focused on showing via demonstration and data the great savings opportunities offered by premium retreaded tires as compared to lower cost options.

According to Marangoni, in terms of cost per mile, a retreaded tire made with a quality casing and a Blackline tread ring can allow for savings up to 57% compared to a low-cost tire from Asia. They added that it takes at least two low-cost tires to compare the performance of a single premium retreaded tyre.

“By choosing a low-cost product, the initial saving is soon completely nullified,” said the company in a release. “In fact, in order to make up the same mileage performance of a premium quality retread, an additional tire change must be made, resulting in additional costs and inconveniences. This will also have an environmental impact, since the two low-cost casings cannot always be retreaded.”

They also pointed to the importance of lower rolling resistance which translates to fuel savings.

In addition to educational content, participants were also treated to a guided tour of the local retreading facility. The event was intended to educate attendees on the processes as well as the environmental and socio-economic advantages of retreading.
