The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee unanimously approved a bill supporting U.S. highways – S.2322.
S.2322 would reauthorize federal aid to highway and highway safety construction programs for six years at current funding levels, $52 billion, with adjustments for inflation. Additionally the proposed bill would maintain the core highway program structure from MAP-21.
Current transportation spending will expire in September this year.
“TIA congratulates the bipartisan leadership and the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for introducing what is now that third transportation bill in Congress. TIA supports sections of the bill that preserve critical MAP-21 reforms that increase public support for the federal aid highway program,” said Roy Littlefield, executive vice president of the Tire Industry Association.
S.2322 will now progress to the Senate.
