Michelin North America and the Tire Industry Association announced three recipients of the Michelin/TIA Scholarship Award for the 2015-16 academic school year.
A total of $6,250 was awarded to the three students: Sydney Burgess of Fort Mohave, Ariz., Levi Lewis of Greencastle, Ind. and Remmy Rocha of Gothenburg, Neb.
“With the rising cost of higher education, the importance of this scholarship program continues to grow,” said Roy Littlefield, TIA executive vice president. “TIA is pleased to work alongside Michelin again this year to sponsor this initiative.”
The Michelin/TIA Scholarship has been awarded every year since 2000 to either part-time employees or dependent children of full-time employees of TIA member tire dealers. Since inception, more than $250,000 has been awarded to 52 recipients who have gone on to attend accredited two-year, four-year, technical or vocational schools. Once awarded, the recipients may renew the scholarship for up to three more years.
Burgess, who is the daughter of Kelly Burgess of Superior Tire in Bullhead City, Ariz., attends Brigham Young University and is studying business management.
Lewis is the son of David Lewis of The Tire Rack in South Bend, Ind.; he is studying French and business at Indiana University.
Rocha, son of Julio Rocha of Dawson Tire in Gothenburg, Neb., attends Creighton University and is majoring in biochemistry.
The scholarship winners were recognized at last night’s Tire Industry Honors Awards Ceremony at the Tropicana Las Vegas.
