Pirelli Previews 2014 Calendar

Few calendars command media attention like Pirelli’s, and next year marks the 50th anniversary of the first edition. Preview photos taken during production of the 2014 calendar are now doing the rounds, and this peek at next year’s “Cal” suggests Pirelli has decided to continue the more conservative approach photographer Steve McCurry adopted for the 2013 calendar.

Those snapped by fashion photographers Peter Lindbergh and Patrick Demarchelier include Miranda Kerr, Alessandra Ambrossio, Helena Christensen, Karolina Kurkova, Isabeli Fontana and Alek Wek. The protagonists are photographed together wearing various items of apparel, including white shirts and black jumpers.

Assuming these preview shots reflect the photos to be unveiled in the finished calendar, Pirelli has again distanced itself from the nudity last seen in Mario Sorrenti’s 2012 skin-fest. As a tiremaker with a global presence, the Italian firm may consider it prudent to avoid potential offense in certain markets, yet nudity has accompanied the Cal on its journey to iconic status and its absence in 2013 raised many eyebrows. We need only wait until November to see whether Pirelli has managed to set the right tone in this golden anniversary year. (Tyres & Accessories)
