Omni United has acquired wholesale tire distributor Interstate Tire Distributor. Terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
“The acquisition of ITD is the next step in the evolution of Omni United as a tire designer and marketer and it will reinforce our presence in our core market, the United States,” said G.S. Sareen, CEO of Omni United.
ITD was founded in 1963 and serves 2,500 tire retailers in the western United States. The distributor focuses on mid-tier brands and operates from six locations: three in Southern California, one in Arizona, one in Utah and one in Nevada.
Sareen told Tire Review that Omni was a “little weak” on the West Coast, and this purchase gives the company access to additional retailers and customers.
“At the end of the day it’s about getting closer to the customer. This gives us access to more than 2,500 retailers in the region,” he said.
The Interstate Tire Distributor name will continue to be used and very little will be changed at the company, Sareen said. Omni has retained all of ITD’s management and will continue to sell the same brands with the addition of Omni’s Timberland line. Additionally, Omni will invest funding into expanding ITD’s footprint, including adding new distribution centers and streamlining processes with technology.
In the future, Omni could acquire other distributors or distribution channels around the world.
“We are forever looking at opportunities. The idea is to expand the footprint as fast and as vast as possible,” Sareen said. “We’re always looking for ways to get into areas where we don’t have existing distribution.”
