Yokohama Rubber Co. has a new inner liner, developed as next-generation technology to further improve the fuel-saving performance of its eco tires.
Yokohama’s Airtex inner liner has been patented, the company said, and is only one-fifth as thick as conventional inner liners, thereby reducing overall tire weight. The technology behind it adds a special resin to conventional liner rubber, making the material highly impermeable to “substantially” reduce the amount of air that naturally leaks from a tire.
The liner is in production now and being used in all Yokohama eco tires.
Yokohama said it is already working on the next generation Airtex, seeking to cut air leakage to nearly zero in the future.
