Longer Break at Michelin

(Chronicle-Herald.ca) The three Michelin plants in Nova Scotia will close for an extra four days over the holidays as the tire manufacturer tries to match production to soft demand.

Sheri Somerville, the company’s communications director, said production at the Waterville factory has been reduced by four shifts a week, but workers are still in the plant cleaning and performing maintenance.

Last month, the company temporarily laid off 25 contract production employees. Somerville said more contract workers have been sidelined since then, but she did not have specific numbers.
