The building of the plant by the South Korean-based company had not been in question, but the timing of its construction hit a snag this fall after the economy really took a turn for the worse.
The plant had been scheduled to open in late 2009, but with fewer people buying vehicles and changes in the exchange rate between Korean and American currency, the company pushed the timetable back.
Monday at the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority meeting, attorney Kevin Brown said the company has committed to concluding the bond transactions with the authority before the end of the year.
“The good news is they are still coming,” Brown said.
The new plant will be Kumho’s first manufacturing facility outside of Asia. It is expected to employ up to 450 people. (Tire Review/Akron)
