The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority claims Kumho Tire USA still plans to build a tire plant in the Georgia county.
The tiremaker announced in January 2008 that it would build a $225 million tire plant on a 123-acre parcel in Bibb County, Ga. But a few months later, after the global economic collapse, Kumho pulled the plug on the project, delaying it for an unannounced period.
Authority members Mayor Robert Reichert and County Commission Chairman Sam Hart reported earlier this week that they had recently met with Kumho officials, who reportedly said “promising” financial news has the plant plans on schedule. Kumho said it plans to have the plant in operation in early 2013.
