Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. introduced a slew of new tires across its Goodyear and Dunlop brands at its 2013 dealer conference, held this week in Washington, D.C. The tiremaker also announced size additions to several Kelly lines, as well as a revamped kellytire.com website.
The new rollouts include:
Goodyear Eagle Sport All-Season
Available in June with a full lineup of 47 V and W speed-rated sizes by the end of 2013, the Eagle Sport All-Season is “designed for responsiveness, all-season traction, and outstanding wet and dry handling with performance drivers in mind,” according to Goodyear. The tire features an asymmetric tread pattern for responsive handling and grip while reducing road noise and promoting even wear; a large tread surface area for consistent performance across a wide range of vehicles; a tread compound designed for wet and dry performance with enhanced grip in ice and snow; and a rim protector for wheel protection against accidental curb damage. The tire carries a 50,000-mile tread life limited warranty.
Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure
Available in September with a full lineup of 44 sizes available by the end of 2013, the Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure “offers versatility for highway driving or for going off-road at a moment’s notice,” the tiremaker said. The new Wrangler features a layer of DuPont Kevlar for puncture resistance over pavement, gravel and dirt; superior traction through rain and snow; open shoulder blocks to help clear mud and snow for off-road traction; and traction ridges for traction on soft road surfaces. The tire carries a 60,000-mile tread life limited warranty on metric and LT sizes.
Goodyear G661 HSA 19.5-inch
The G661 HSA 19.5-inch, for pick-up and delivery applications, will be available in size 245/70R19.5, Load Range G, in February 2013. Another size, 225/70R19.5, also Load Range G, will be available in July 2013. Goodyear said the tire features a multi-compound, layered tread construction designed to help extend tread life; up to 18/32nds tread depth; a high-scrub compound and robust sidewall to help provide performance in tough service applications; three-belt construction with penetration protectors to help resist cuts and punctures; and TredLock Technology, which features interlocking microgrooves to stabilize the tire’s tread in order to help deliver high mileage.
Dunlop Sport Maxx RT
Developed to deliver performance on the street through the use of racing technologies, Goodyear said the new Dunlop Sport Maxx RT features adaptive tread compound for race-like grip and improved braking performance; massive outer shoulder blocks to promote increased stability and sure handling when cornering; power braking blocks for shorter braking distance at high speeds; and low-weight construction for lower rolling resistance. The tire is available in 17 sizes ranging from 17- to 19-inch wheel diameters.
Dunlop Sport Maxx Race
Designed for “serious enthusiasts looking for performance on and off the race track,” Goodyear said the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race available in seven 19-inch sizes features: hybrid aramid overlay for enhanced steering and handling stability; asymmetric tread design for handling on wet and dry pavement; a motorsport-derived tread compound for exceptional grip; and high angle ribs to improve grip while cornering.
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D
The Dunlop SP Winter Sport 4D, which replaces the SP Winter Sport 3D, will be available this fall in 18 sizes ranging from 16- to 19-inch wheel diameters. The new tire features a 4D sipe system of interlocking sipes to improve snow handling; V-shape grooves and deep snow notches for enhanced snow traction and performance; a special tread compound that adheres to wet and icy surfaces; and low weight construction for lower rolling resistance, according to Goodyear.
Dunlop Winter Maxx
Available this fall in 47 sizes ranging from 13- to 19-inch wheel diameters, the Winter Maxx features a higher sipe blade density to help prevent block distortion and increase tread-to-ice contact; a compound that combines flexibility and rigidity to help the tread adhere to icy surfaces; wide grooves and lugs for improved snow traction and wet handling; and an asymmetric tread design for enhanced handling in snow, wet and dry conditions, Goodyear said.
In addition to the new products, the tiremaker also announced it will introduce 15 new tire sizes across four Kelly product lines in 2013, along with a newly redesigned website at kellytires.com.
New sizes include:
Kelly Explorer Plus: 205/65R16 T, 225/65R16 T and 225/60R17 T
Kelly Safari Signature: 225/60R17 H, 225/65R17 H, 235/60R18 H and 245/60R18 H
Kelly Charger GT: 215/45R17 V, 215/50R17 V, 225/50R17 V, 225/55R17 V and 235/55R17 H
Kelly Safari ATR: 235/70R17 S, 245/65R17 T and 265/60R18 T
The new Kelly website, slated for launch in February, will “simplify the tire shopping process by providing tools to help consumers choose the right Kelly tires for their vehicle and connecting them with a local retailer,” Goodyear said.
The site’s new features include: updated, interactive Tire Selector and Dealer Locator tools; enhanced navigation and functionality; and Goodyear-branded options for consumers if there is not a Kelly tire for their vehicle.
The site educates shoppers on Kelly tire offerings, searching by vehicle, tire size, tire category or product line. It also allows consumers to compare tires by their features and benefits, product category and MSRP.
