Employee Thought Tires He Bought Looked Familiar

(Port Charlotte Sun (Fla.)) A man working at a North Port recycling business thought the tires he bought last month looked familiar. So, he called a friend to check out his pickup truck and discovered the tire rims he bought were his.

Denver Gardner, a man working at Don’s Recycling in North Port, called the police and last week and a 20-year-old Port Charlotte man was charged with grand theft and a 17-year-old will be charged after he is released from the Department of Juvenile Justice on a different crime, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office reported.

On Feb. 28, Brett Michael Stershic, 20 of Port Charlotte, and two others came into Don’s Recycling and sold two aluminum tire rims for scrap. After that, Gardner called a friend of his and asked him to check his home to see if his three tire rims were still in the rear of his truck. She reported back that all three were missing.

On Mar. 18 detectives obtained the identity of the three who went to the recycling business and sold two of the three rims for scrap. One of the three men was released as he did not know the rims were stolen, the sheriff’s office said. A 17-year-old said he and Stershic stole the tire rims and took them to Stershic’s home.

Stershic was arrested for felony grand theft. The juvenile will be arrested after he is released from DJJ in Fort Myers where he is currently serving 15 days for an unrelated crime. The third tire rim has not been located according to detectives. (Tire Review/Akron)
