Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. has added some 70 workers to its Tupelo, Miss. Plant since the company’s restructuring led to the closing of its Albany, Ga. plant.
Cooper Tire officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking earlier this week for a 32,000-square-foot expansion for the Tupelo plant. Pat Jodon, the plant’s manager, said the $7 million project could create as many as 150 new jobs at the 1,250-worker plant.
Officials say 78 jobs have already been added since Cooper closed the Albany plant after reviewing its North American operations last year.
The Mississippi plant was spared during the restructuring along with facilities in Findlay, Ohio, and Texarkana, Ark.
