On May 23, the California Assembly Appropriations Committee will consider two tire-related bills.
The first bill, A.B. 1665, would authorize the California Bureau of Automotive Repair to regulate businesses that change and repair tires as automotive repair dealers. In an effort for California to comply with federal safety regulations, the automotive repair dealers must be able to service and repair TPMS.
The California Tire Dealers Association as well as Les Schwab Tire Centers are co-sponsoring the bill.
The second bill, A.B. 2656, would extend the requirement to 2020 that the California Department of Transportation use asphalt paving materials that are at least 50% rubberized asphalt concrete. The bill would also require the California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery to prioritize the use of tire-derived products in relevant public works projects.
