Was it a Mad Slasher or Tire Dealer?

The mean streets of Brooklyn took yet another turn when some 40 cars had their tires slashed on the night of Nov. 28.

While tire slashings are not unusual these days – Tire Review sees reports of at least three incidents each week – what made this incident unusual is that the tire attack came just 24 hours after the same neighborhood was "plastered" by business cards advertising a local tire shop.

Residents on 71st and 72nd Streets in the city think its all more than a coincidence that the slashings happened the day after ad cards for the business were left under their wiper blades.

“It could just be coincidental, but it’s kind of fishy,” one neighbor told the local newspaper. “Most times, it’s just some kid and they hit one tire. But this time, they did it so that you can’t just throw a spare on.”

The tire shop denies any connection. “It’s got to be a bad coincidence,” said a representative of the business. “We don’t pay people to slash tires. It’s frustrating that people would even think we would do something like that. We don’t even specialize in fixing flats. Our main thing is selling rims. We would never send people out to slash tires knowing that they’re going to come back here.”

Police are investigating the matter.
