Behind the Scenes

I can sympathize with anyone who has gone through a major renovation. It’s a lot of hard work, sweat equity that pays off when the last wall dries and the furniture is moved back in. That’s when the glow of self-satisfaction hits, and carries through every future conversation about how great the “new” house looks.

Those chats never seem to mention that the home renovation job would not have been possible without the help of Bill at the home center who gave much needed painting tips or Walt at the lumber yard how explained how to hang drywall or how your best bud Tony hooked you up with a flooring pro.

So while I am aglow with the launch of our all-new Web site, I want to recognize and publicly thanks all of the people who actually made this happen.

The sparkling new e-Buyer’s Guide would not have been possible without the guidance and assistance of Brad Mitchell, our circulation chief, and Ellen Mays and Kim Hedgepeth who did all of the dirty work. Sean Donohue and Karen Kaim of our sales team got a bunch of suppliers on board for enhanced listings.

Gratefully, our previous Web developer worked hand-in-hand with our new Web developer to make sure that literally tens of thousands of pages of material were relocated easily and flawlessly. And our new team of designers and programmers did yeoman work transcribing our pencil sketches and gibberish into an elegant, efficient Web product.

Sometimes the best help is assistance not given. So the with that in mind, a hearty thank you to those who gave us the space and time to see this project through – sans an unnecessary number of chefs and the right amount of cooks.

Finally, a bulk of the credit goes to two key people:

• Nicki Lock, our Web guru who helped us see our vision through, kept us on task, served as liaison between the TR staff and the Web programmers, handled all of our concerns, came through with creative additions and fixes, and kept me from flipping out needlessly.

• Managing editor Denise Koeth, who maintained her poise and focus throughout, did more than expected (way, way, way more) and contributed more to the entire process than she knows. She made this project hers, and her management and ‘ownership’ alone made it all possible.

Behind the scenes, it was a job very well done, and we know you will benefit from the extraordinary effort.
