Apollo Expands PCR Capacity

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Apollo Tyres Limited is to expand the passenger car radial (PCR) capacity of its Limda plant, the Business Standard has reported.

The company will reportedly invest 3 billion rupees (£38.33 million) in the expansion of its PCR capacity at its Limda unit.
 
According to the reports, the Limda unit currently produces 7000 PCR units each day. By the end of 2006 the company says it will increase this to 11,000 PCR units per day. Sources report that the company eventually plans to produce as much as 30,000.

Maruti Udyog Ltd and Mahindra & Mahindra are said to be the company’s two largest passenger car radial customers. The plant currently produces 280 tonnes per day f bias tyres. This is expected to increase to 290 tonnes per day. Apollo intends to acquire smaller tyres manufacturing units in India as well as abroad, the report added.
