TIA Pledges to Work with USTMA, NHTSA on Registration, Recall Procedures

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) passed a resolution at its annual meeting Monday, promising to work with the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on tire registration and recall procedures.

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) passed a resolution at its annual meeting Monday, promising to work with the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on tire registration and recall procedures.

The text of the resolution, passed by TIA, is below.

“Whereas, TIA recognizes the significance and impact of speaking in one industry voice;

“Whereas, TIA urges all sectors of the tire industry to utilize modern technology in the development and implementation of an improved new tire registration program;

“Whereas, TIA urges tire manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors and dealers to develop a tire recall strategy to greatly improve the percentage of tires successfully recalled; and

“Whereas, TIA, USTMA and NHTSA are encouraged to work together to develop a motorist education program to educate drivers on the new registration and recall procedures;

“Now, therefore be it resolved by TIA, assembled this 29th day of October, 2018, in General Assembly, that TIA and USTMA continue on the road of cooperation, support and respect to address all issues of concern, conflict and contention in the tire industry to provide real-world solutions to serious safety issues to improve mobility safety on the nation’s roads.”
