Nokian CEO to Compete in Ironman Triathlon

Nokian Tyres president and CEO Hille Korhonen will take part in the Ironman Chattanooga triathlon this weekend.

Nokian Tyres president and CEO Hille Korhonen will lead by example as she competes in the Ironman Chattanooga triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 30.

To Korhonen, the challenging competition is more than just a race. Nokian Tyres’ top executive participated in the Ironman 70.3 event in Finland last June and said it fits in naturally with the company’s values that promote mobility and active lifestyles.

“The sense of community that comes from participating in an Ironman event is extraordinary,” said Korhonen. “I came to Chattanooga last year for the Dayton factory groundbreaking ceremony and since that time have set my sights on coming back to compete.”

The race will begin with a point-to-point 2.4 mile swim in the Tennessee River followed by a 116 mile bike course in north Georgia and will conclude with a 26.2 mile running course that will travel through downtown Chattanooga, Riverview and the North Shore.

“As Nokian Tyres continues to grow its presence in North America, I want to set an example for our employees and show them our company’s values aren’t just words,” Korhonen said. “For me, courage, devotion and commitment lay the foundation for Nokian Tyres’ success. This race exemplifies that by putting both physical and mental capabilities to the test, showcasing how this type determination can drive people forward and allow them to accomplish their goals.”

The challenges and obstacles that come with completing this event are nothing new for the Nokian Tyres brand. In addition to sponsoring Ironman 70.3 in Lahti, Finland, the company hosts its own Hakkapeliitta Triathlon, which has inspired its employees to live actively for more than 20 years.
