Falken Tire Launches ‘EcoRun’ Roadtrip

Falken Tire will take part in a five-day roadtrip with its destinations determined by social media participants.

Starting Aug. 19, Falken Tire will take part in a five-day roadtrip with its destinations determined by social media participants. The event is part of Falken’s ongoing objective to position the brand as the everyday tire of choice, the tiremaker said.

Destinations for the trip will be chosen daily by Falken Tire’s Facebook fans. The hashtag for the trip is  #ecoruntrip.

“The premise, and ultimate success, of the Ecorun Trip is integrating the power of social media and our Ziex ZE-914 tire into both a fun event and a great study in fuel efficiency,” stated Andrew Hoit, Falken’s vice president of marketing. “I look forward to seeing the input from our fans on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram – to help guide the Civic around the South and Northwest.  We also anticipate our ZE-914 Ecorun tire will gain a fair amount of notice in the process.”

Partnering with the editors of Import Turner, Falken modified the 1993 Honda Civic – updating the engine, suspension, aero and tuning, as well as removing weight. Outfitted with Falken’s Ziex ZE-914 Ecorun, the hope is the Civic will receive significant MPG improvements; fuel efficiency estimates reach 60 MPG, a 20% increase.

The Ziex ZE-914 Ecorun is a hybrid tire engineered with a fuel-efficient low rolling resistance compound, according to the tiremaker. It features an asymmetric tread pattern with four grooves for hydroplane resistance, as well as a dual high rigidity rib construction for good wet and dry braking stability. To optimize tread wear, as well as provide a comfortable ride and traction, slots and sipes can be found throughout the tire. Sizes range from 15- to 18-inch wheel diameters; speed ratings include H, V and W.
