Michelin North America Inc. and Coker Tire Co. will join the America’s Car Museum (ACM) as the Official Tire Sponsors of The Drive Home, an 11-day road rally from Tacoma, Wash., to Detroit for the opening of the 2016 North American International Auto Show.
During the road rally, a 1957 Chevy Nomad, 1961 Chrysler 300G and a 1966 Mustang will drive “home” to Detroit from Dec. 27 to Jan.7 with winter tires provided by Michelin and period-correct BFGoodrich tires, then the cars will be shoed custom wheels from Coker Tire when the cars are displayed in Detroit.
“When we first learned about this trip we were excited but also a bit anxious, as we wanted to be sure it was done safely,” said Ron Margadonna, Michelin tire expert. “Traveling from the west coast to Detroit that time of year will most certainly offer some winter weather challenges along the way. We’re excited to help ensure the rally is a safe and comfortable one with proper winter tires for each of these beautiful cars.”
The cars will stop in cities such as Boise, Salt Lake City, Kansas City, St. Louis and Chicago during their trek. For more information, visit americascarmuseum.org.
