Born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1931, Hogan attended Kent State University and later graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in English. He married Mary Jo Siebenaler in 1952, and the couple raised eight children: Christine (Christopher) Morris who passed away in 2007, John F. III, Paula Brown, Gregory, Therese (Guy) McIntosh, Kathleen (Edward) Trexler, Susan and Philip (Denise). Hogan also enjoyed time with 26 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

His career started with Commercial Credit Corp., then with Beneficial Finance, before he returned to Akron where he graduated from Goodyear’s Management Squadron training program. He held a range of posts with Goodyear, retiring from the tiremaker in 1987 after 30 years of service.

Behind the scenes, in 1984, he and sons John and Gregory founded Hogan & Sons Inc., a Goodyear tire and auto service store. The company has grown from one location in Leesburg, Va., to eight retail stores across Virginia: Fairfax, Sterling, Herndon, Falls Church, Purceville, Winchester and South Riding. Son Phillip is now a co-owner, and numerous members of the Hogan family are active in the business.

In August, Goodyear representatives presented Hogan & Sons with a plaque marking the tire dealer’s 30-year relationship with the tiremaker.

Service honoring Hogan were hosted on Sept. 26 in Leesburg, and the family said that memorial donations may be made to Capital Caring Hospice in Aldie, Va.
