Longtime tire industry marketer Doug Conley Sr., founding partner and CEO of Shamrock Marketing Inc., died April 21, 2017. He was 69 years old.
Conley was born in Toronto, Ontario, on Dec. 31, 1947. He studied business at Seneca College and started his career at the Toronto Star Newspaper.
Conley had a passion for advertising and marketing and worked at Ogilvy & Mather before joining the tire industry. In 1970, he became General Tire’s marketing manager for Canada.
Also known for being an entrepreneur, Conley founded and owned several businesses. In 1980, he helped start Ontario-based Pilote Marketing Inc., a wholesale distributor of inner tubes, specialty tires, curing tubes, and curing envelopes. He later went on to be a founding partner and owner of Shamrock Marketing Inc. in Louisville, Ky., supplying Bulldog curing envelopes and rubber products, consumables, and equipment to the tire retread industry.
Conley was active in the tire retread industry and was on the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau’s board of directors for several years. He was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1993.
Conley is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons; daughter; and many grandchildren.
