TriCan Tire Distributors Inc., a subsidiary of American Tire Distributors Holdings Inc., is buying all outstanding shares of Burlington, Ont.-based Regional Tire Distributors Inc.
The acquisition, which should be completed by the end of April, will further extend ATD’s reach into Canada. RTD has five distribution centers in Ontario and another four across the Atlantic provinces. In November 2012, ATD made its first move north of the border by purchasing all of TriCan Tire Distributors.
ATD said it plans further expansion into Canada, adding both greenfield distribution centers and “potentially acquiring other Canadian distributors.”
“RTD Ontario has built a very strong presence in the eastern provinces in which they operate,” said Bill Berry, ATD president and CEO. “These nine distribution centers will complement the current TriCan operation, which has a leading market position across the Prairie Provinces and in British Columbia.”
Following the close of the acquisition, ATD will continue to run its Canadian operation as a stand-alone business unit. Mike Kustra, currently president of RTD Ontario, will assume the role of president of the combined RTD/TriCan operation.
Chris Fletcher, currently president of TriCan Tire Distributors, will assume the role of non-executive chairman of the combined operation.
