RMA Honors Michelin Plants for Worker Safety

The Rubber Manufacturers Association’s Safety and Health Improvement Program (SHIP) has recognized six Michelin North America Inc. facilities for excellence and improvements in worker health and safety.

During the RMA’s board meeting, two of Michelin’s plants in Starr, S.C., received Excellence Awards and four plants – two in Lexington, S.C., one in Spartanburg, S.C., and one in Covington, Ga. – received Improvement Awards

“The SHIP results are an important measurement for Michelin because our top priority every day is to provide the safest and healthiest work environment possible for our workers,” said Pete Selleck, Michelin North America’s chairman and president. “Ultimately, we depend on the hard work, vigilance and determination of our plant employees to maintain a culture of safety at every site.”

The “Excellence” and “Safety” categories are measured by the incidence rate for lost workday cases. To be selected for an Excellence Award, facilities must achieve a Days Away Restricted Transfer (DART) rate that is 75% better than the average data plants provide to RMA. To be selected for an Improvement Award, facilities must achieve a DART rate that is both 10% better than its rate in the previous year and the same or better than the RMA average incidence rate.
