The editors of Popular Science have selected the Michelin Premier A/S tire as one of the Top 100 innovations of 2014 in its annual Best of What’s New list in the automotive category.
“We are honored to have the Michelin Premier A/S recognized as a significant leap forward in innovation by the world’s largest science and technology magazine,” said Scott Clark, chief operating officer of Michelin North America’s passenger and light truck tire division. “The Premier A/S reflects our continued commitment to staying on the leading-edge of research and development so that we can continue to provide consumers with new products that make their driving experience safer and more enjoyable.”
The Popular Science editors labeled the Premier A/S the “No-Slip Tire,” saying, “On wet roads, treads siphon away water, making it less likely that the car will skid or hydroplane. Still, drivers often wear tires until they’re nearly bald. Adapting to consumer behavior, Michelin designed grooves that widen over time (the opposite of most tires) as well as grooves that emerge as the tire wears down. The Premier A/S is also built from a new high-silica compound that provides better traction in the rain.”
Each year, Popular Science editors review thousands of new products and innovations and choose the top 100 winners across 12 categories for inclusion in the annual Best of What’s New issue. According to the magazine, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category.
