The new building on Reverchon Street in the Saint-Laurent district was open to guests and Toyo representatives during an evening celebration that included the traditional Japanese barrel of sake smashed open by Toyo officials. Though there were many VIPs attending the event, it was Alain Matheussen, the warehouse manager, who acted as the emcee. He was most convincing in opening up the sake barrel!
The new warehouse was designed under Alain’s supervision. He made sure the offices were simply but beautifully decorated. The building, which was completed last September, is 87,000 sq. ft. in total with 4,200 sq. ft. allotted for offices.
According to Alain, it can accommodate 85,000 tires of all categories, including racing tires (but no OTR products). This new warehouse is 70% bigger than the older one.
One of three new buildings This new warehouse is one of three new buildings Toyo will
build in the coming year. For the time being, it is the biggest in Canada and it will service Quebec, the Atlantic Provinces including Newfoundland, the Ottawa Valley and even part of Ontario.
As tires come in from Japan, they will enter the warehouse by the 10 dock doors. Alain was involved in the design of the warehouse and made sure the doors would not be directly facing major winds. But that was not his only involvement. He also saw to it that every employee works there in a safe and clean environment.
Some 12 people work in the warehouse regularly.
