Staying Off the Radar Screen – Literally

Many of you – perhaps most of you, perhaps few of you – will be traveling this holiday weekend. That is if gas prices don’t force you into yet another "Stay-cation." (BTW: Loved the pics from your last Stay-cation. The couch looked SO comfortable, and those pre-made frozen hamburger thingys must have been de-lish!!!!!)

Anyway, if you are traveling this Memorial Day weekend, there’s no sense in making extra contributions. You’re not Jimmie Johnson or Marco Andretti, so don’t drive like it, right?

To help keep your wallet intact, the National Motorists Association – a motorists’ rights group that has been helping drivers fight traffic tickets for 30 years, according to its press release – has compiled a handy list of which states will be most vigilant in minding speed limits, and which municipal areas are highly likely to be seeking additiona revenue, as they say.

The NMA’s rankings “came from analyzing ticket-related search queries such as ‘speeding ticket’ and ‘traffic tickets’ using Google’s Insights for Search.”

According to the NMA, the top 25 states (ranked by their index) most likely to give you a big fat ticket are:

1) Nevada 79
2) Georgia 70
3) Alabama 69
4) Florida 67
5) Maryland 65
6) Louisiana 63
7) Texas 62
8) District of Columbia 61
9-tie) California, North Carolina, Missouri 59
12) New York 56
13) Mississippi 55
14) South Carolina 54
15-tie) Indiana, Washington, Tennessee 51
18) Illinois 50
19-tie) Arizona, Iowa, Oklahoma 49
22 Virginia 48
23 New Jersey 47
24-tie) Ohio, Kansas 45

And the top metro areas to avoid:

1) Atlanta 74
2) Los Angeles 72
3) Dallas-Ft. Worth 62
4) Miami 59
5) New York 57
6) Chicago 52
7) District of Columbia 50
8) Houston 47
9) Orlando 39
10) San Diego 34

Consider yourself warned. No go out there and have a fantastic holiday weekend, my friends!
