Heading the Shanghai office are the engineer Marcello Gambarini, head of the China project, and Zhu Pei Fang, who Marangoni describes as a “very well-known figure in China in the rubber manufacturing sector.”
“In China, truck tire retreading is mostly done by thousands of small workshops, using technology that is way out of date,” said Gambarini. “There are some much larger retreaders, at least in terms of volume, however these too operate with obsolete technology.
Gambarini said only 30% of tires are retreaded in China, compared to a global average of 80%. “We will see current volumes increase over a short period, making China the second biggest tire retreading market in the world.”
