Button Wins First Grand Prix

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Jenson Button scored his first Formula One victory last weekend in what Michelin called a “topsy-turvy Hungarian Grand Prix.”

Michelin’s partners dominated the early stages of the rain-affected race and Button swept to the front of the field on lap 52, when world championship leader Fernando Alonso stopped with a rear wheel problem.

Title-hungry Michael Schumacher finished ninth but was promoted to eighth when Robert Kubica was disqualified. This gave him a vital point over Fernado Alonso in the title race. Bridgestone drivers David Coulthard (Red Bull) and Felipe Massa (Ferrari) also made it into the points taking 5th and 7th places respectively.

Commenting on Jenson Button’s first win, Michelin Formula One director, Nick Shorrock said: “This is a fantastic reward for all Michelin’s hard work. Where to start? Our 101st grand prix success might have been convincing, but this has been a very tough weekend. Track conditions have been very testing and this morning’s rain made things worse. I’d like to compliment Jenson on spearheading a Michelin clean sweep of the top five.”

Winning the Hungarian Grand Prix in his 113th race will no-doubt please Jenson Button who, at 26, is Britain’s sixth youngest F1 winner. “What a day – it’s been amazing,” he told the BBC.
