Apollo to Start R&D Facility In Germany

(Clacton, U.K./Tyres & Accessories) Apollo Tyres plans to set up a research and development facility in Germany, according to Onkar Kanwar, co-managing director of Apollo Tyres.

The company plans to use the facility as a stepping stone towards strengthening the company’s relationship with the Leipzig Institute of Polymer Science, a school of Germany’s Leipzig University which employs professionals from various global tyre majors as experts.

These experts are helping to develop novel technology for tyres. News reports suggest the company is also on the lookout for another two universities in Germany for similar partnerships. Apollo is also working with Indian institutes such as National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and IIT, Kharagpur, for design and development of rubber technology, respectively.

Bridgestone invests in Yoshi Mobility to expand into virtual inspection, EV charging

Yoshi is also commercializing its mobile EV charging platform to address EV fleet charging challenges.

Yoshi Mobility recently closed its $26 million Series C funding round. The round includes strategic investors General Motors Ventures and Bridgestone Americas, as well as international investors Universal Motors Agencies and Shikra Limited. Launched out of Y Combinator in 2016, the company is also backed by ExxonMobil, DN Automotive, NBA All-Star Kevin Durant, and NFL legend Joe Montana. Yoshi Mobility has raised more than $60 million to date. In addition to scaling its core business, the company said Series C funding enables it to expand three new business lines: preventative maintenance, virtual vehicle inspections and electric vehicle (EV) charging.
