Tire Dealers – Premium Line Parts Versus Second Line Parts

(Akron/Tire Review) Data from Industrial Marketing Research’s (IMR) recent Installer Survey shows that tire dealers rely heavily on “premium line” auto parts when it comes to servicing customer vehicles.

In a survey, dealer respondents were presented with the question, “Generally speaking, what percent of the parts you use are premium line parts versus second line parts?”

Tire dealers reported that in 62% of the cases, they look first to using premium line parts. “Second line” parts were sought by just 2% of dealers, while 21% went to “private brand” products. Some 15% said the brand did not matter.

By comparision, 69% of the parts used by General Repair Shops are “premium line,” while Quick Lubes use premium parts 50% of the time.
