Michelin and TIA Announce Scholarship Winners

(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin has honored three students with scholarships in recognition of their commitment to their local communities.

The announcement was made at the annual membership meeting of the Tire Industry Association (TIA) at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nev.

The Michelin/TIA Scholarship program is open to part-time employees or dependents of full-time employees of TIA member organizations who are pursuing a post-secondary education. To be considered for a Michelin/TIA Scholarship, applicants must demonstrate excellence in three primary categories: academic performance in the classroom, active participation in extracurricular activities at their school and contribution to their local community through leadership in civic organizations.

The following students were selected to receive Michelin/TIA Scholarships:

She was the DECA Secretary, on the senior class board, the FCCLA social chairman, a member of the Student Athletic Training Leadership Team and selected to participate in the National Student Leadership conference. Outside of the classroom, Ashley was involved with many community activities and was a member of the Explorers Club at Alegent and Children’s Hospital, a volunteer for the Salvation Army Tree of Lights and a religious education assistant at St. John Vianney Church. Ashley was nominated by her mother, Joan Broesch of Tire Centers LLC in Omaha, and is using the scholarship at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she is studying bio-chemistry and Spanish.

Samantha Gollub of Dartmouth, Mass. ($1,250 annually) – Ranked fourth in her class, Samantha balanced her education with recreation. She was a member of the National Honor Society and won both the History and Amnesty International Awards her senior year. Samantha is also very athletic and counts hiking, running, skiing and snowboarding among her favorite activities. Samantha’s father, Brian Gollub of Sullivan Tire Company, nominated his daughter who is now studying at the University of Vermont.

Ruth Raisner of Vacaville, Calif. ($1,250 annually) – Ruth excelled in the classroom, on the field and in the concert hall. Ranked in the top 10 percent of her class, Ruth was on the honor roll every year, a member of the California Scholarship Foundation and an active participant in the Soroptimist Club. Outside of the classroom, Ruth ran varsity cross country all four years, played soccer and participated in the half-mile and the mile events on her track team. Ruth also excelled in music and played trumpet in her school’s Orchestra Winds and Jazz Ensemble. Ruth is currently at University of California Merced where she is majoring in biomedical engineering. Ruth was nominated by her father, Robert Raisner of Dapper Tire Company.

Each of the scholarships is presented on an annual basis and is renewable for up to four years. Since the program’s inception in 1995, Michelin North America, Inc. has awarded over $200,000 worth of scholarships to college students across the country, the company says.
