Pirelli Reveals Simplified Tire Range for 2019 Formula 1 Races

For 2019 Formula 1 races, Pirelli will use three tires in different colors to denote the tire's compounds so that fans can identify which tire is used for each race.

Pirelli Tire revealed a simplified tire range for Formula 1 races that will be used in 2019, according to Formula 1.

The Italian tiremaker plans to supply three tires for Formula 1 races, each with a different color that matches up to the type of tire compound used for the race. The colors – white, yellow and red – denote the hard, medium and soft tire choices respectively at every Grand Prix, ESPN reported. The simplification intends to make it easier for fans to understand the differences between compounds.

While the three compounds will change to suit each track, the colors will remain the same for easy identification for fans. Before every race next year, Pirelli will reveal which compounds will be used for the racing weekend, ESPN says.

“We’ve been talking about this with the Teams, FIA and Formula 1 for a while,” said Mario Isola, head of car racing at Pirelli in an article on F1.com. “The idea behind the change is to make all the tyres more easily recognizable and explainable – especially for television – while still clearly denoting which specific compounds are being used at each race.”
