For one author in South Dakota, getting an oil change sparked some creative juices.

The story of romance writer Amy Daws’ relationship with Tires Tires Tires out of South Dakota is a refreshingly fun tale that ends in an auto shop romance. And it just recently got picked up by Buzzfeed.

It started when Daws went to a Tires Tires Tires location to get a new set of tires on her car. She was suffering from writer’s block, but at the store, she cranked out 4,000 words.

Inching to go back to the tire shop, she offered to take the cars of friends and family in for service. Eventually, Daws asked if she could come to the shop and write, and Gary Michaels, a manager at Tires Tires Tires, messaged her to welcome her to the store.

Since then, Daws has been named the shop’s writer in residence and has exchanged a series of notes with Tireman, the 15-foot statue made of tires that stands outside all Tires Tires Tires locations. Also, be sure to check out (and vote) for Tireman in our 2018 Great Mascot Challenge.

Follow Daws as she posts about her Tires Tires Tires adventures on her website and social media and keep up with what she’s been working on: a new book inspired by her time at the shop called “Wait With Me.”
